NT Connections

Connections is the National Theatre's nationwide youth theatre festival. Each year it offers a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups to stage new plays written for young people by some of the National Theatre's most exciting playwrights.

Connections aims to:

  • Inspire 13-19 year olds with high quality new playwriting
  • Give companies the knowledge, skills and confidence to bring the plays to life
  • Encourage young people to get involved in all aspects of theatre-making
  • Celebrate young people's talent

This year, 250 youth theatres and schools will perform ten contemporary plays, commissioned by the National Theatre, across the UK. Bristol Old Vic is proud to be one of the South West's Partner Theatres, hosting the Partner Theatre Festival for the 4th year in a row.

The National Theatre's Connections festival is a brilliant platform for young people to share their work with other young people on a professional stage. To celebrate this, Bristol Old Vic would like to offer school groups a selected amount of free complimentary tickets to our next Partner Theatre's festival in March 2017. The National Theatre's Connections Festival turned 21 in 2016. To celebrate, the festival was the biggest yet. 500 youth theatres and schools staged 12 fantastic plays, picked from the 150 plus scripts commissioned by the National Theatre since 1995. This milestone coincided with Bristol Old Vic's 250th Anniversary, so to mark our joint birthdays, Bristol Old Vic's Partner Theatre Festival was bigger than ever before. 14 Companies performed across two weeks in the Studio Theatre, celebrating both anniversaries and the extraordinary talent that young people showcase through the National Theatre's Connections festival.
