History. Myth. Remembering. What stories can we tell each other of our past?

Created and written by the company, A Spark and a Beating Heart is about us. Who we are, how we came here and why we do what we do. It's a celebration and a love-letter, a party and an elegy. Mixing the many myths of the firebird with a collective reflection on lives lived. We are here to tell you our story.

Yes, a spark and a beating heart full of fire, just before the story starts or the lights come up, us small players become the main act.
Firebird Theatre are a unique group of disabled theatre-makers, spanning generations. They have been making theatre together for 25 years. Their experiences tell stories of shifting attitudes towards difference and disability; of understanding and ignorance.

Last year we began redevelopment works to transform our King Street entrance into a welcoming, vibrant space and build a brand new Studio theatre designed by award-winning architects Haworth Tompkins. During this time, it will be business as usual in the Theatre with our brilliant programme on offer, and we're taking our Studio programme on Walkabout around Bristol!

A Spark and a Beating Heart continues our Studio Walkabout Season, inspired by the city-wide partnerships created during the Theatre's first phase of refurbishment in 2011 which saw us stage productions in other venues including Coram Boy with our friends at Colston Hall.

Please note the venue of this show is The Trinity Centre. We hope you will join us as we stretch our legs across the city and continue to enjoy our brilliant studio programme.
