hello,
my name is libby and i had my first session of the young company everr today, in the 16-25 group. It was a fantastic session, great teaching, fantastic people to meet and learn with and work with. And i feel there are great things to come, and more and more that I will learn by doing these sessions. It was very motivating and i felt as though i was in a real team.
The session involved, quick thinking warm up games, warming up body and voice and really being aware, or people and space. Also devising and improvisation techniques. Constantly changing who you work with and that way learning more and more and learning comunication and ensamble skills.
cant wait til the next session.

The first session of the term was really really good!! Met some old friends for the year 9 group (before i took a gap year)and new ones.. every one is very nice.
In this session we looked at ‘colouring’. I’ll let you work out what it means…..

So, back to the Young Company sessions. The first one this evening was brilliant - quite a lot of admin cutting a chunk out of the start but once it got going it was great.
We learnt a simple but effective technique called ‘colouring’ - building on an idea until it becomes quite layered and complex. While we used it mainly for character and setting construction we quickly found out that in order to use it to its full potential it had to be used as a way of thinking about the whole devised piece too: for creating atmosphere, back story, etc. Shame we didn’t run with the idea a little more - but then, as Tid said, telling us what to do specifically would have taken out the hard work.

BOVYCSESSIONS are back! awoohoo! good first sesh, loadsa welcome chat and stuff at the beginning but all the new peoples in the thurs 16+ group seem awesome
worked on a new colouring technique after a mahOOsive game of killer tic. not gonna lie the concept of it was hard to grasp and trying to “run with it” was a challenge but some really interesting stuff was created. so yeh hope everyone had a wicked summer great to see everyone again and having an exciting new group is fun times. yay for next week x

Awesome first session in the thursday 16 + group, lots of talking and stoof at first but it was all good :)Lots of warm up games which are always appreciated!.
We learnt a new technique called colouring which involves a basic concept, which stages are then added to in order to create a more ‘interesting’ and ‘complex’ piece.
overall good interesting session and i enjoyed it a lot. see everyone next week

hi,bristol old vic was really good today! we played this really good game half of our group (year 7,8 and 9) lined up in a line in the middle of the room we closed our eyes and put our hands on the shoulders of the person in front, and the other half of the group took us from our line to a random part of the room. with our eyes still shut tight we had to get into the line we originally were in exactly the same place and it was so so hard but really really fun! great session

Hey everyone,
I really enjoyed today’s 16-18 group, last week i wasn’t sure about the colouring technique as I felt like we wern’t in control and really were making something that would not be very good! such as “spoony spoony spoon!” but we had to work through that to get the technique right!
This week we worked on improvisational skills which i loved because it was so unpredictable! (as improvs generally are…..) I thought that mostly improvisation needed text to make it interesting or make sense, but the way that people just made noises instead of speaking still got their intention across just fine, and was much more interesting to watch and made the peice live a bit more. I also thought that what Tid said about just commiting yourself and staying in the moment was on the money because if you just ignored everything else or how much of an idiot you might look, it made it much easier to improvise and create something “truly magical”!
Can’t wait for the next instalment!
See you all soon

Last night we had an AMAZING session (monday year 7,8,9)

We were split into groups and were given splips of paper with the start of a instruction on ,then we had to complete the instruction and put them all in a hat. We drew them out then had to act out the instruction, everyone went up at about 4 at a time and there was random stuff such as a boy saying
“well… I like picking my nose and… I like picking my nose as well and…” and someone singing bob the builder or looking for a purple cloud. Part of a sketch I would change would be in mark’s piece where they arested a puffin for selling blue shoes illegaly. At the begining I would have had kenzo and mark slowly walking up behind the puffin then grabbing him by the wrists as to arrest him then the scene could carry on as it did, I enjoyed this performance very well as it changed from one thing to another without you expecting it.
Can’t wait for next monday!

i love the one with someone using a shoe and making a wardrobe with! My favourite saying in that peice was ” a shoe is an essential item for a wardobe.” It was so funny LOL! i can’t wait for next week!

Amazing session yesterday..
working on some physical stuff with tid and a few duets with peter. personally i think all of the peices created were original, brilliant and inspiring.
i loved the concept of putting a peice of music or a duet with a random movement piece, sometimes it doesnt fit but every time you get something new and exciting out of it.
Thanks so much, amazingly energizing session
