This weekend sees the arrival of the Harbour Festival and Bristol Old Vic is taking over King Street. Not only will you be able to enjoy performances from our very own, fantastic Young Company (listed in the previous post), but we will also be laying on a BBQ and a bar out on the cobbles. And as if that wasn’t enough, there are also backstage tours of the theatre available at a mere £2 per head. So if heat gets too much, come and relax with a Pimms or have a quick peek behind the curtain of the oldest, working theatre in Britain.
BBQ includes:
- Aberdeen Angus Burgers
- Falafel & Spinach Burgers
- Kebabs
- Corn on the Cobs
Bar will be stocked with:
- Ice cold Pimms
- Bath Ales
- Selection of beers and ciders
See you there!

To further cement Bristol Old Vic’s increasingly relevent status in the Bristolian conscience, we are collaborating with the fantastic Bristol Harbour Festival, pedestrianising King Street for a weekend of theatrical spectacle, performance and participatory events.
Bristol Old Vic’s pioneering Young Company will turn the cobbled street into a temporary performance space. The performances will involve around 100 young people from across the city, who are busy working with professional artists to create and rehearse two new pieces of work especially commissioned for the festival.
Alongside these showcase performances there will be opportunities for Festival goers to explore Bristol Old Vic through a guided tour, to have a cup of coffee in the café, to meet some of the Bristol Old Vic team, and for younger audience members, to find out how they can get involved in the Young Company on a regular basis.
On the horizon:
- Fallen - A performance that explores flight, risk and falling in love, directed by Miranda Cromwell
- Run - Join our running club! and dare to ask, what am I running from? directed by Jesse Jones
Also in the programme is a special, informal performance of Dr Seuss’s whimsical bedtime story told by Year 6 of the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, directed by Rosie Giarratana.

Bristol theatre-makers are currently fermenting work at Bristol Old Vic and are in need of your assistance!
There is, for the next couple of weeks (2 - 17 July), an eclectic selection of plays, poems and performances being showcased in different parts of the building - all of which are in various stages of development. Be it a rehearsed reading or an embryonic idea looking for clarification, the artists involved are in desperate need of feedback, comment and analysis. The whole purpose of the initiative is to help nurture local talent whilst simultaneously providing inexpensive entertainment for audiences. With tickets ranging from £4 to FREE, we want to encourage you to become a part of the theatre-making process.
If you have seen any of the shows we would love to hear your thoughts… however candid! Feel free to post comments on this thread, and we can pass them on to the artists involved. You can also post comments on the main website HERE, or alternatively do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper and post it into one of the boxes around the theatre.
You feedback is ESSENTIAL to Bristol Ferment so please, don’t be shy!
