Swallows and Amazons Schools Choir Competition
Bristol Old Vic is offering the chance for your whole class to win tickets for Swallows and Amazons!
This brand-new musical is based on the classic children's adventure story by Arthur Ransome,
with music and lyrics written by award-winning musician Neil Hannon (aka The Divine Comedy).
How it works
We'll send your class the song "Whistle on the Wind" (which features in the show) to learn.
Just send a video of your performance to Bristol Old Vic where the winning version will be picked by
composer Neil Hannon and the winning class will get tickets to come and see the show PLUS
an exclusive backstage tour. You will also be invited to perform your version of the song in the
theatre's Coopers Gallery before the show begins.
The winning version and all runner-up videos will be played at Bristol Old Vic during the
run of the show (subject to parental consent).
To take part in this competition, please email your request for the piano arrangement
of the song to: cskelcey@bristololdvic.org.uk
This task is suitable for Key Stages 2, 3 & 4, particularly Music, English and Drama
We will send out a basic piano arrangement from which the pupils and/or teachers can
decide what to add or change. There is complete freedom to come up with a version
that you think would be appropriate - the song has solo sections as well as opportunities
for harmony - so can be as advanced as you consider suitable for your class' ability/age.
Please feel free to also include movement or performance elements and to play instruments too.
Please include details of the age of the children in the class and the number taking part
when sending in your entry.
The recording can be on any format, but DVD is recommended.
Closing date for entries: 5pm 31 October 2010
Winning tickets can be taken for performances from 1 - 17 Dec or 4 - 15 Jan,
subject to availability.
Own transport will need to be provided.
