Bristol Old Vic, King Street, Bristol, BS1 4ED


From June this year, we anticipate the beginning of redevelopment works that will transform our front of house King Street entrance into a welcoming, access friendly community space that everyone will be able to enjoy.

From Saturday 18 June you will be invited to enter the Theatre via stage door, walking the footsteps of such legends as Peter O'Toole, Daniel Day Lewis and Miranda Richardson.

Our new Theatre entrance can be accessed through Rackhay (BS1 4HJ) off Queen Charlotte Street around the corner from King Street.

Public Transport

Bristol Temple Meads railway station is a 15 minute walk to Bristol Old Vic or there are regular buses and taxis from outside the station into the City Centre. There is also a ferry which runs from the railway station into the City Centre. Marlborough Street Bus Station is a 20 minute walk away.

By Foot

Bristol Old Vic is located on King Street which is a quick 5 minute walk from the City Centre. To access our new Theatre entrance, continue to the end of King Street turining left onto Queen Charlotte Street and left again onto Rackhay (BS1 4HJ).


There are bike racks available on King Street and also Prince Street.

By Ferry

Bristol Ferry Boat Company run regular ferries from Hotwells and Bristol Temple Meads railway station to the City centre all year round and 7 days a week.

By Car

Coming from the M32 onto the A4032 following signs to the City Centre you will reach traffic signals on the A4044, here, turn right onto Bond Street still following signs to the City Centre. At the St James Barton roundabout take the first exit signposted City Centre keep in the left hand lane, following the road around to the left onto Baldwin Street. Turn right onto Queen Charlotte Street and an NCP car park will be on your left after the zebra crossing.

Car Parking

There are also good parking facilities in the surrounding area including, especially at the NCP on Queen Charlotte Street (see map above). Meter parking is also available on King Street and Queen Square. There is one disabled space right outside the Theatre. Blue Badge Holders park for free outside the Theatre.

Can be booked from the theatre


There is space for two coaches to set down and pick up in front of Bristol Old Vic on King Street. The closest coach park is near the M Shed museum (access off of Cumberland Road) with a fee of £1.10 for up to 24 hours (do check this before setting off) or there is free parking along Cumberland Road.
