A Bristol Old Vic Production
Bristol Old Vic's 250th
Anniversary Season

"The past is the present isn't it? And the future too?"

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer prize-winning masterpiece captures one fateful summer's day in the life of the Tyrones. Haunted by the past but unable to face the truth of the present, James and Mary Tyrone and their two sons test the bonds of a family caught in a cycle of love and resentment. As day turns to night and each member of the family indulges in their vices, the truth unravels leaving behind a quartet of ruined lives.

An unashamedly autobiographical account of O'Neill's own life, Long Day's Journey Into Night is considered one of the most powerful American plays of the 20th century. Brought to life as part of Bristol Old Vic's 250th Anniversary season by a multi award-winning team led by director Richard Eyre (Notes on a Scandal, Iris), and starring Jeremy Irons (Brideshead Revisited, The Borgias) opposite Lesley Manville (Ghosts, Another Year).

An intense, electrifying production."

A production tantalisingly close to perfection."

Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville shine with sexual passion and rage."

First-class production from a first-class regional theatre."

What a complete production this is."

Long Day's Journey Into Night is the centerpiece of Bristol Old Vic's 250th Anniversary programme which will include productions from each of the four centuries of the Theatre's life.
