Meadows to Meaders

back to shows book now

Presented by Bristol Old Vic and Myers-Insole Local Learning CIC

Come along to Ascot Road on Sun 2 July to find out about and meet the Meadows and the Meaders; two fictional families who were in Southmead from the very beginning!

The many fascinating stories provided by you have been woven into the Meadows to Meaders Soap Opera. People of Southmead will be performing episodes covering the 1930s to the 1960s, live on Ascot Road at 2pm and 4.30pm.

Lots of other activities will also be taking place throughout the day:

  • A chance to sample a taste of 1930s cuisine - just the way granny used to cook.
  • Watch films capturing memories of the early years of Fonthill Road School, the Baptist Church Youth Club and that take a peek inside some of the first houses to be built in Southmead.
  • Visit the Exhibition of Objects Past, that reveal another part of Southmead's history and hear recollections of cows being herded along Ascot Road, memories of the first Teddy boys and Doncaster Road teacher remembering how cheeky children were tricked into owning up to stealing fruit from the school allotment.

Check out the Facebook page for updates or contact Ruth Myers on ruth@locallearning.org.uk

Look out for us on the Art and Sole Apple Trail on 20 May and at Southmead Festival, 1 July. Meadows to Meaders is a community production of a piece of theatre inspired by local stories performed by local people.
