Phil Dunster nominated for an Olivier Award for his role in Pink Mist
This morning it was announced that Phil Dunster has been nominated for a Laurence Oliver Award for his role as Arthur in Bristol Old Vic's production of Pink Mist. The category is Outstanding Achievement In An Affliliate Theatre and is for Pink Mist's run at The Bush Theatre in London earlier this year.
This year will be the 40th anniversary of the Olivier awards ceremony. The Laurence Olivier Awards are given to those involved in West End shows and other leading non-commercial theatres based in London. The Olivier Awards are recognised internationally as the highest honour in British theatre, equivalent to Broadway's Tony Awards and France's Moliere Award.
Speaking this morning, on hearing about his nomination, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate Phil Dunster said: "I can't quite believe it really- it was totally unexpected and I heard about it from Pete Edwards (Pink Mist cast member) who called me up as the nominees were being announced. It was amazing to be able to take Pink Mist to The Bush Theatre and share this brilliant play with a wider audience. Thank you Bristol Old Vic for letting me have a crack at playing Arthur. I love this play and the message it delivers."
Bristol Old Vic's Executive Producer Chloe Elwood said "We're utterly delighted to have Pink Mist recognised in this way. We were so pleased to be able to take the show to The Bush. It felt like a real meeting of minds between the two organisations and this is such wonderful recognition of that. We're really pleased for Phil and for the whole company who together created something truly special."
The 2016 Olivier Award Ceremony will take place on Sunday 3 April, where host Michael Ball will announce the winners. Following today's nominations announcement, there is little over a month until the ceremony itself, which will be held at the Royal Opera House.
On the night the public will be able to watch all the action from the ceremony at the return of the ever popular Covent Garden Piazza event, which will include live performances from nominated shows and a live stream of the event. Fans can also tune into ITV1 for a highlights package shortly after the ceremony.
There is still an opportunity to catch Phil Dunster's performance as Pink Mist runs at Bristol Old Vic until Saturday 5 March.
